IN RE:
SB923 by Zaffirini (Relating to criminal history checks of certain employees and applicants for employment in nursing homes and to the period within which a nursing home must request certain criminal history checks.  ), Committee Report 1st House, As Amended

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 250 of the Health and Safety Code to require a nursing facility to conduct a criminal history check on each licensed employee or applicant for employment. The Department of Human Services indicated that any costs associated with implementation of the bill could be absorbed within the appropriations to the agency. The cost of the criminal check is a Medicaid eligible expense and as such could be included in the provider rate structure.
