LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 30, 2003

TO:
Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB998 by West (Relating to registration of arbitrators and arbitration services providers with the secretary of state.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

This bill requires arbitration services providers and arbitrators to register with the office of the Secretary of State (SOS). The bill will add a new registration filing to the SOS, and will require the agency to maintain a list of the registrants and make the list readily available to the public.  The SOS anticipates that it will be able to absorb the increased administrative costs associated with the provisions of this bill within current appropriations. The bill also specifies that a $10 fee will be required for each registration filing, however, the revenue generated from this new fee is not anticipated to be significant.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
