LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 12, 2003

TO:
Honorable Terry Keel, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1336 by Hinojosa (Relating to the liability of a criminal defendant and the defendant's sureties on a personal bond or bail bond and to certain procedures in connection with bond forfeiture.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure relating to the liability of a criminal defendant on a personal bond or bail bond.  The Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Office of Court Administration anticipate no significant fiscal impact from this bill.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Counties would see a minimal increase in revenues due to reducing the instances in which bond amounts are returned, but these gains are not expected to be significant.
