LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 23, 2003

TO:
Honorable Frank Madla, Chair, Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1461 by Lindsay (Relating to the sale of used fire protection or fire-fighting equipment to certain volunteer fire departments.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would authorize a county commissioners court to sell used fire protection and fire-fighting equipment to a volunteer fire department for 8 percent of the original purchase value of the equipment if certain criteria are met. The bill would take effect September 1, 2003.

Local Government Impact

The county selling the equipment would experience a revenue gain that would vary depending on what equipment is sold, how much equipment is sold, and what the original value of the equipment was.

The volunteer fire department would experience a significant savings by being able to purchase equipment at a discounted price.
