No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would require that one hour of the current required annual training for licensed nurses and nurse aides in nursing facilities be on dementia. The bill states that the legislative intent is that facilities incur no additional costs from implementation of the bill.
The Department of Human Services (DHS) assumed no impact from the implementation of the bill. Currently direct care staff of nursing institutions (i.e., registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, nurse aides, and nursing assistants) are required to complete a specified number of hours each year for dementia. The Department assumed in the response the flexibility to amend the rule requiring training to add "dementia" training, to provide no additional cost to the facility, DHS, or the State.
