IN RE: | SB1612 by Ellis, Rodney (Relating to the right of residents of an area annexed for limited purposes to vote in certain municipal elections. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted |
The bill would require allowing qualified voters of an area annexed for limited purposes to vote in municipal elections regarding the election or recall of the controller of the municipality, if that is an elective position of the municipality. The bill would take effect September 1, 2003.
Under current statute, qualified voters of an area annexed for limited purposes are allowed to vote in municipal elections regarding the election or recall of members of the governing body of the municipality. If such an election is held, there would be a slight increase in election costs to include the qualified voters in the annexed area.
