TO:
Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1662 by Duncan (Relating to the care of elementary and secondary school students with diabetes.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require a medical management plan to be developed for each student with diabetes who needs care for the condition while at school.  The bill would require that the student’s parent or guardian and the student’s personal health care team develop the management plan.  The management plan would be required to identify the health care services the student may receive at school and be signed by the student’s personal health care team.  The parent or guardian would be required to submit a copy of the management plan to the school.  The bill would require that the school receive and review the plan before the beginning of the school year, on enrollment of the student, or as soon as practicable following the diagnosis of diabetes.  The bill would define a school to include a public or private elementary or secondary school or an open-enrollment charter school.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
