No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Govenrment Code, adding a section relating to star of Texas awards for peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical first responders who are killed in or sustain serious or fatal injuries in the line of duty. Additionally, the bill would create three advisory committees to advise the Governor regarding the awards. Members of the committees would receive no compensation for service on the committee and no reimbursement for travel expenses incurred while conducting committee business.

The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote in each house; otherwise, it would take effect on September 1, 2003.
