LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 7, 2003

TO:
Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1732 by Gallegos (Relating to school attendance of a child placed in substitute care.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (PRS) to return children to school no later than the third day after the date that PRS takes possession of the child. PRS indicates that its current policy is to return the child to school as soon as possible. Legal holidays and complex enrollment procedures may create delays in a few instances.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
