LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 9, 2003

TO:
Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1781 by Ogden (Relating to the supplemental salaries of judges of the district courts having jurisdiction in certain counties.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Government Code, Chapter 32 to remove the cap on supplemental salary paid to the district judges by Madison and Walker counties. The bill would repeal Sections 32.157(d) and 32.236(d) of the Government Code. These sections put a cap on the supplemental salary from all counties at $2,900 for district court judges with jurisdiction in Madison and Walker Counties.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2003.

Local Government Impact

Costs to Walker and Madison counties to implement the provisions of the bill would depend upon actions of the commissioner's courts of the counties. Any approved salary supplement to the judges of the district courts is not expected to be significant to the budgets of the affected counties.
