LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

EQUALIZED EDUCATION FUNDING IMPACT STATEMENT

78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 15, 2003

TO:
Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SJR32 by Janek (Proposing a constitutional amendment to establish a public school finance system based on state provision of teacher salaries and benefits and assistance for maintenance and construction of school facilities.), As Introduced

The resolution coupled with SB 682  would repeal provisions of the Texas Education Code governing the equalization of school funding, effective September 1, 2004. Without these provisions, the equity measures "percent of revenue in the equalized system" and "percent of students falling within the equalized system" would no longer apply.
