The House Committee on Redistricting 78th Legislature June 30, 2003 2:00 p.m. Capitol Extension, E2.036 Pursuant to an announcement from the house floor on June 30, 2003, the House Committee on Redistricting met in a formal meeting and was called to order by the chair, Representative Crabb, at 2:14 p.m. The roll was answered as follows: Present: Representatives Crabb; Villarreal; Flores; Grusendorf; Isett; Krusee; Luna; Marchant; McClendon; Morrison; Raymond; Talton (12). Absent: Representatives King; Pitts; Wilson (3). A quorum was present. Committee members discussed testimony on congressional redistricting from the outreach hearings. Representative McClendon moved that based on the fact that Lubbock testimony was 3 to 1 against, that Dallas had 375 against and 77 for, that San Antonio was three-fourths against, that Houston was three-fourths against, that Nacogdoches had 7 for and 65 against, and that there was no quorum in Brownsville, this committee not take up congressional redistricting and adjourn. The motion failed by the following record vote: Ayes: Representatives Villarreal; Flores; McClendon; Raymond (4). Nays: Representatives Crabb; Grusendorf; Isett; King; Krusee; Marchant; Morrison; Talton (8). Present, Not Voting: Representative Luna (1). Absent: Representatives Pitts; Wilson (2). Representative Raymond moved that this full committee not meet until members get all of the transcripts from all of the cities and wait at least 24 hours before the committee meets. Representative Raymond moved to amend his motion from a wait of at least 24 hours to a wait of two days.
