The House Committee on Economic Development 78th Legislature February 26, 2003 8:00 a.m. Capitol Extension, E2.028 Pursuant to a notice posted on February 21, 2003, the House Committee on Economic Development met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Keffer, Jim, at 8:15 a.m. The roll was answered as follows: Present: Representatives Keffer, Jim; Homer; Rodriguez; Wong (4). Absent: Representatives Isett; Hughes; Thompson (3). A quorum was present. Invited Testimony The chair recognized individuals to present their invited testimony before the committee on issues concerning Spaceports. Testimony was taken. (See attached witness list.) (Representative Hughes now present.) Testimony was taken. (See attached witness list.) HB 667 The chair laid out HB 667. Representative Hughes offered a complete committee substitute. The chair recognized Representative Puente to explain the measure. Testimony was taken. (See attached witness list.) The chair recognized Representative Puente to close on the measure. The committee substitute was withdrawn without objection. The bill was left pending without objection. Invited Testimony The chair recognized a witness representing the office of the Comptroller of Public Accounts to provide information on the 4A and 4B Economic Development Sales Tax. (see attached witness list.) At 9:50 a.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was recessed until thirty minutes upon adjournment on February 26, 2003. The committee reconvened at 12:38 p.m. and was called to order by the chair, Representative Keffer, Jim. The roll was answered as follows: Present: Representatives Keffer, Jim; Homer; Hughes; Rodriguez (4). Absent: Representatives Isett; Thompson; Wong (3). A quorum was present. HB 667 The chair laid out HB 667 as pending business. Representative Hughes offered up a complete committee substitute. The committee substitute was adopted without objection. Representative Rodriguez moved that HB 667, as substituted, be reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion prevailed by the following record vote: Ayes: Representatives Keffer, Jim; Homer; Hughes; Rodriguez; (4). Nays: None (0). Present, Not Voting: None (0). Absent: Representatives Isett; Thompson; Wong (3). Invited Testimony The chair recognized individuals to present their invited testimony before the committee on issues concerning workforce. Testimony was taken. (See attached witness list.) (Representative Thompson now present.) Testimony was taken. (See attached witness list.) Upon the request of Representative Thompson, the chair moved that Representative Thompson be shown as voting aye on HB 667, as substituted. The motion prevailed without objection.
