         Pursuant to an announcement from the house floor on May 24,  
         2003, the House Committee on Public Education met in a formal  
         meeting and was called to order by the chair, Representative  
         Grusendorf, at 6:50 p.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Grusendorf; Oliveira; Branch; Dawson;  
                   Griggs; Hochberg; Madden (7). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Dutton; Eissler (2). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         SB 1181 
          
         The chair laid out SB 1181 and explained the measure. 
          
         Representative Hochberg offered an amendment to the measure.  
          
         The amendment was adopted without objection. 
          
         Representative Oliveira moved that SB 1181, as amended, be  
         reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation  
         that it do pass and be printed. The motion prevailed by the  
         following record vote:  
          
         Ayes:               Representatives Grusendorf; Oliveira;  
                             Branch; Dawson; Hochberg; Madden (6).  
           
         Nays:               Representative Griggs (1).  
           
         Present, Not Voting:     None  (0).  
           
         Absent:        Representatives Dutton; Eissler  (2).  
           
         At 6:53 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
