MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON ADMINISTRATION Monday, April 14, 2003 4:15 p.m. Administration Committee room, E1.714 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Administration was held on Monday, April 14, 2003, in the Administration Committee room, E1.714 ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Chris Harris Senator Juan Hinojosa Senator Mike Jackson Senator Kyle Janek Senator Leticia Van de Putte Senator Jeff Wentworth Senator John Whitmire ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 4:36 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: The chair laid out the recommended list for the Local and Uncontested Calendar scheduled for April 16, 2003, upon adjournment of the Senate. There was discussion on the recommended list. The chair asked that SB 306 be held, at the request of the author, to await the House companion; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Whitmire moved that all bills on the Local and Uncontested Calendar recommended list except SB 59, SB 249, SB 634, SB 786, SB 395, SB 422 and SB 306 be certified. The motion carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 0 nays, 1 absent and 0 present not voting. The chair laid out HB 970 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Jackson, to explain the bill. The chair asked if there was anyone in the audience who wished to testify on, for, or against HB 970; hearing no one, the chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Janek moved that HB 970 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. Senator Whitmire moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Van de Putte inquired about locating a space in the Capitol building to set aside where nursing women could go to pump for breast milk. Senator Harris appointed a subcommittee of Senator Van de Putte to work with Patsy Spaw to find a space for nursing women. The chair asked Senator Van de Putte to report back to the full committee with her findings at a later date. There being no further business, at 4:50 p.m. Senator Harris moved that the Committee be adjourned.
