The chair laid out HB 1508 and recognized Senator Harris, in the absence of the Senate sponsor, to explain the bill. Senator Hinojosa moved that HB 1508 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 3 absent. Senator Hinojosa moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. The chair laid out HB 1236 and recognized Senator Harris, in the absence of the Senate sponsor, to explain the bill. Senator Hinojosa moved that HB 1236 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. Senator Hinojosa moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Jackson moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. The chair laid out the Local and Uncontested Calender recommended list for April 25, 2003. There was discussion. Senator Hinojosa moved that all bills on the recommended list be certified, except for HB 462, HB 1822, SB 463, SB 498, SB 635, SB 743, SB 1348, and SB 1489. HB 1011, HB 1236, and HB 1508 were added. The motion carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. The chair asked for a report from the subcommittee on breast-feeding. Chairwoman Van de Putte called on Secretary of the Senate, Patsy Spaw, to report to the committee. Ms. Spaw reported that there were two locations available to the public for breast-feeding, although electrical outlets for breast pumps were not available. The Secretary of the Senate will check to see if chairs are available at these locations and to ascertain what it would cost to install electrical outlets. The chair asked that signs be posted in all Senate bathrooms alerting the public to the breast-feeding locations. There being no further business, at 4:20 p.m. Senator Harris moved that the Committee be adjourned.
