MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON BUSINESS & COMMERCE Tuesday, February 11, 2003 9:00 a.m. Betty King Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Business & Commerce was held on Tuesday, February 11, 2003, in the Betty King Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Troy Fraser Senator Tommy Williams Senator Kip Averitt Senator Kenneth Armbrister Senator Kim Brimer Senator Craig Estes Senator Mike Jackson Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. Senator Leticia Van de Putte ***** Chairman Fraser called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: Chairman Fraser advised that invited testimony would be heard on SB 14, which was pending in Committee, and called on the author of the bill, Senator Jackson, for remarks. Senator Jackson advised that at the previous hearing invited testimony was taken on the homeowners portion of the bill and that testimony on the automobile portion of SB 14 would now be heard. The Chairman called the first invited witness, Rod Bordelon, Public Insurance Counsel, Office of Public Insurance Counsel. The next witnesses called, Cyndi Taylor Krier, Will D. Davis and Alice Gannon, represented USAA. At 10:30 a.m. Chairman Fraser moved that the Committee stand recessed until 15 minutes after adjournment of the Senate; without objection, it was so ordered. At 2:48 p.m. the Committee reconvened, with invited testimony on SB 14 continuing. The witnesses were as follows: Ina Becraft, State Farm Insurance Companies, Bloomington, Illinois, Bonnie Gill, Allstate, Northbrook, Illinois, Philip Presley, Texas Department of Insurance, Austin, and Willie Graves, Progressive County Mutual Insurance Company, Austin. Following testimony by the above listed witnesses, Chairman Fraser advised that the Committee would meet on Thursday, February 13, 2003, to hear the remaining invited witnesses from today's agenda. The Chairman then moved that SB 14 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered. There being no further business, at 4:45 p.m. Chairman Fraser moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chairman.
