Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was
held on Thursday, May 15, 2003, in the Capitol Extension, Room
E1.012, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:46 a.m. There being
a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
There was no action taken for the following bill(s): HB 195, HB
411, HB 558, HB 567,
HB 1440, HB 1649, HB 1650, HB 2072, HB 2169, HCR 15, SB 1292,
and SB 1747.
The chair advised that HB 1887 had been tagged pursuant to
Senate Rule 11.19 and would not be heard.
The chair laid out SB 1874 and recognized the author, Senator
Lucio, Jr., to explain the bill.
Senator Van de Putte sent up a committee substitute; the chair
recognized Senator Lucio, Jr. to explain the difference between
the committee substitute and the bill as filed. Senator West
moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection,
it was so ordered.

be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it
