Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of
the Senate Committee on Education was held on Friday, May 16,
2003, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:40 a.m. There being
a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
The following bills were laid out in committee and public
testimony was opened and closed on either Tuesday, May 13, 2003
or on Thursday, May 15, 2003:
Senator West moved that HB 195 be reported favorably to the
Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.
The motion carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 0 nay, 0
present not voting, and 3 absent.
Senator West moved that the bill be recommended for placement on
the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so
ordered.
Senator Janek moved that HB 219 be reported favorably to the
Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.

The subcommittee report on HB 1650 was laid out by Senator West.
Senator West was recognized to explain the subcommittee report
on HB 1650. Senator West then moved adoption of the
subcommittee report; there being no objection, it was so

be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it
do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote

The chair laid out HB 411 and recognized Senator West, in the
absence of the Senate sponsor, to explain the bill.
Senator West sent up Committee Amendment 1 and moved adoption;
without objection, the amendment was adopted.
