         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was  
         held on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, in the Capitol Extension,  
         Room E1.012, at Austin, Texas.

         The chair called the meeting to order at 9:15 a.m.  The  
         following business was transacted:   
          
         Witnesses testifying and registering on Charge #1 are shown on  
         the attached list.   
          
         Witnesses testifying and registering on Charge #6 are shown on  
         the attached list.  
          
         At 11:40 a.m. Senator Zaffirini assumed the chair.  
          
         At 12:00 p.m. Senator Shapiro resumed the chair.     
          
         The chair moved that the invited and public testimony be closed;  
         without objection, it was so ordered.   
          
         There being no further business, at 1:25 p.m. Senator Shapiro  
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of  
         the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
