MINUTES STANDING SENATE SUBCOMMITTEE ON HIGHER EDUCATION Thursday, April 24, 2003 1:30 p.m. or upon adjournment Senator Royce West's Desk ***** Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Standing Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education was held on Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Senator Royce West's Desk ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Royce West None Senator Kip Averitt Senator Kyle Janek Senator Todd Staples Senator Leticia Van de Putte ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: The following bills were previously laid out and discussed on April 23, 2003: SB 1230 by Wentworth, SB 1443 by Barrientos and SB 1908 by Ellis Senator Averitt sent up a committee substitute on SB 1230; the chair explained the difference between the committee substitute and the bill as filed. Senator Averitt moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Averitt moved that SB 1230 do not pass but that CSSB 1230 be reported back to the full committee with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 0 absent. Senator Van de Putte moved that SB 1443 be reported favorably to the full committee with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 0 absent. Senator Janek sent up Committee Amendment 1 on SB 1908 and moved adoption; without objection, the amendment was adopted. Senator Janek moved that SB 1908, as amended, be reported back to the full committee with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 0 absent. There being no further business, at 3:04 p.m. Senator West moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.
