         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.18, a public hearing of the Standing Senate Subcommittee on  
         Higher Education was held on Thursday, May 6, 2004, in the  
         Capitol Extension, Room E1.012, at Austin, Texas.

         Senator Kip Averitt

         The chair called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.  There being  
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted:   
          
         Witnesses testifying and registering on the overview of  
         community colleges and developmental education are shown on the  
         attached list.   
          
         At 9:56 a.m. Senator West moved that the Committee stand  
         recessed until after adjournment of the Senate; without  
         objection, it was so ordered.    
          
         At 11:24 a.m. the Committee reconvened. 
          
         The Committee resumed testimony from witnesses on the overview  
         of community colleges and developmental education.. 
          
         At 12:50 p.m. Senator West moved that the Committee stand at  
         ease; without objection, it was so ordered. 
          
         At 12:59 p.m. the Committee reconvened.   
          
         The Committee resumed testimony from witnesses on the overview  
         of community colleges and developmental education.. 
          
         At 1:52 p.m. Senator Averitt assumed the chair.     
          
         At 2:25 p.m. Senator Averitt moved that the Committee stand recessed until after adjournment of the Senate;  
  
         without objection, it was so ordered.   
          
         At 5:12 p.m. the Committee reconvened.   
          
         The Committee resumed testimony from witnesses on the overview of community colleges and  
         developmental education.. 
          
         The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.   
          
         There being no further business, at 6:00 p.m. Senator West moved that the Committee stand recessed subject  
         to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
