MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON JURISPRUDENCE Monday, July 7, 2003 3:00 p.m. Corpus Christi, Texas ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence was held on Monday, July 7, 2003, in the Corpus Christi, Texas at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Robert Duncan Senator Chris Harris Senator Mario Gallegos, Jr. Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. Senator Kip Averitt Senator Royce West Senator Todd Staples ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 3:12 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: The chair offered welcoming comments. Senator Hinojosa offered welcoming comments. The chairmen of the Port of Corpus Christi, Ruben Bonilla, offered welcoming comments. The chair introduced the translator for the meeting, Elliot Chenaux. Senator Duncan read an introductory statement. Senator Staples moved that the committee limit testimony to five minutes. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 3 absent and 0 present not voting. Senators Gallegos, Staples, and Averitt offered welcoming comments. At 3:30 p.m., Senator Duncan recessed the committee for ten minutes. The committee was called to order at 3:40 p.m. Senators Wentworth and Van de Putte offered welcoming comments. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. Senator Janek was introduced at 4:15 p.m. At 4:40 p.m., the chair recessed the committee until 4:55 p.m. At 5:03 p.m., the chair called the meeting to order and continued with public testimony. At 5:54 p.m. Senator Gallegos, Jr. assumed the chair. At 6:04 p.m. Senator Duncan resumed the chair. At 6:31 p.m., Senator Duncan recessed the committee until 6:45 p.m. At 7:00 p.m., the chair called the meeting to order and continued public testimony. At 8:32 p.m., the chair recessed the committee until 8:45 p.m. At 8:45 p.m., the chair called the meeting to order and continued public testimony. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Gallegos moved that all remaining cards of people not wishing to testify be added to the record. The motion passed with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 3 absent, and 0 present not voting. There being no further business, at 10:20 p.m. Senator Duncan moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.
