MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON JURISPRUDENCE Monday, July 21, 2003 9:00 a.m. Capitol Extension Auditorium ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence was held on Monday, July 21, 2003, in the Capitol Extension Auditorium at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Robert Duncan None Senator Mario Gallegos, Jr. Senator Kip Averitt Senator Chris Harris Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. Senator Todd Staples Senator Royce West ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 9:31 a.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: At 9:32 a.m., the chair offered opening statements. Senators Lucio and West offered welcoming statements. The chair laid out pending business HB 3 and continued with public testimony. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. At 10:03 a.m., Senator Staples laid out Plan 01324C and Plan 01325C. Senator Staples offered remarks. Senators West, Lucio, and Gallegos offered remarks. At 11:12 a.m. Senator Duncan announced the committee would stand recessed until 11:30 a.m. At 11:35 a.m. the committee reconvened and continued public testimony. At 11:47 a.m. Senator Duncan announced the committee would stand recessed until after adjournment of the Senate. At 1:58 p.m. the committee reconvened and continued public testimony. At 2:02 p.m. the committee stood at ease awaiting a witness. At 2:20 p.m. the committee came back to order and continued public testimony. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection it was so ordered.
