MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES Wednesday, April 16, 2003 Upon adjournment Senate Chamber ***** Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services was held on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, in the Senate Chamber at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Jane Nelson Senator Mario Gallegos, Jr. Senator Kyle Janek Senator Bill Ratliff Senator John Carona Senator Bob Deuell Senator Jon Lindsay Senator Royce West Senator Judith Zaffirini ***** The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: The Chair recalled Senate Bill 1553 which had previously been left pending. Senator Janek moved to adopt the committee substitute which had previously been laid out; without objection, the motion carried. Senator Janek moved that Senate Bill 1553 do not pass but that CSSB 1553 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 1 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. The Chair recalled Senate Bill 245 which had previously been left pending. Senator Zaffirini moved to adopt the committee substitute which had previously been laid out; without objection, the motion carried. Senator Zaffirini moved that Senate Bill 245 do not pass but that CSSB 245 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. Senator Zaffirini moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. The Chair recalled Senate Bill 1744 which had previously been left pending. Senator Zaffirini moved that Senate Bill 1744 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. Senator Zaffirini moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. The Chair moved that the Committee recall Senate Bill 1571 which had previously been reported favorably out of the Committee; without objection, the motion carried. Senator Carona moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. There being no further business, at 2:20 p.m. the Chair moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the Chair.
