         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.18, a public hearing of the Joint Interim Committee on Higher  
         Education was held on Tuesday, August 10, 2004, in the Capitol  
         Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

         The chair called the meeting to order at 9:16 a.m.  There being  
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted:   
          
         Senator West explains workgroup findings on community colleges  
         and independent institutions. 
          
         Representative Goolsby explains workgroup findings on systems. 
          
         Senator Janek explains workgroup findings on research  
         institutions. 
          
         There being no further business, at 10:19 a.m. Senator Shapiro  
         moved the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the  
         chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
