         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.18, a public hearing of the Joint Select Committee on Public  
         School Finance was held on Wednesday, August 6, 2003, in the  
         House Appropriations Committee Room, E1.030

         The chair called the meeting to order at 9:11 a.m.  Senator  
         Shapiro and Representative Grusendorf made opening remarks and  
         recognized the members of the committee for their opening  
         statements. 
          
         The Chair laid out a tentative schedule for the committee. 
          
         Witnesses testifying and registering on the issue are shown on  
         the attached list.   
          
         Dr. Harrison Keller,  Dr. Lori Taylor, and Dr. John Opperman  
         discussed the Research Agenda and the members of the Committee  
         asked them to proceed with their plan. 
          
         The Chair and members of the committee discussed changes to the  
         committee rules and all agreed to adopt rules at the Committee's  
         next hearing.   
          
         There being no further business, at 10:10 a.m. Senator Shapiro  
  
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of  
         the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
