SENATE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING COMMITTEE: Subcommittee on Higher Education TIME & DATE: 8:00AM, Tuesday, July 20, 2004 PLACE: E1.036 - Finance Com. Rm. CHAIR: Senator Royce West ___________________________________________________________________________ The Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education will hold a joint hearing with the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at 8:00 a.m. in the Senate Finance Committee Room, E1.036. The Committee will hear invited testimony on the Joint Interim Charge with the Senate Finance Committee relating to studying and making recommendations relating to the development of a statewide accountability system for higher education that is consistent with funding strategies for higher education. The Committee will hear invited tesimony on the Joint Interim Charge with the Senate Finance Committee relating to studying the budgetary impact of legislation to deregulate tuition at institutions of higher education. This study should include, but not be limited to, a review of recent tuition increases authorized by this Act, their impact on affordability of higher education, and an evaluation of the expenditure of these funds. At the conclusion of the joint hearing, the Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education will receive public testimony on Charge #4 relating to studying and making recommendations to modify the student financial assistance programs to provide better incentives for students to graduate on time with better grades, such as the B-On-Time program and workstudy programs, and to simplify the application process for financial aid programs. The Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education and the Senate Finance Committee will receive public testimony on joint charges relating to higher education funding, tuition deregulation, and accountability. ___________________________________________________________________________
