Amend CSHB 1 by adding the following appropriately numbered 

SECTION and renumbering subsequent SECTIONS of the bill 

accordingly:

	SECTION __.  STUDY AND REPORT ON CREATION, CONSOLIDATION, 

AND ABOLITION OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS. It is the intent of the 79th 

Legislature, 1st Called Session, 2005, that the lieutenant governor 

and the speaker of the house of representatives create a select 

committee on education to conduct an interim study on the creation, 

consolidation, and abolition of school districts in this state. It 

is the further intent of the legislature that the governor be 

invited to appoint four members to the committee and to appoint one 

member to serve as chair of the committee. The committee's 

proceedings and operations shall be governed by such general rules 

and policies for joint interim committees as the 79th Legislature, 

1st Called Session, may adopt, and the costs of the study shall be 

paid from amounts appropriated by the legislature that may be used 

for that purpose. The committee shall submit a full report, 

including findings and recommendations, to the 80th Legislature not 

later than January 15, 2007.
