CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
of Betty J. Hobbs of Paris, who died on June 7, 2005, at the age of
78; and
WHEREAS, Born on February 7, 1927, in Bagwell, to Oscar and
Gwen Brown Cagle, Mrs. Hobbs grew up in a large family and enjoyed
the love and companionship of four sisters and two brothers; and
WHEREAS, The Clarksville High School alumna became the bride
of Glenn Winfield Hobbs on October 23, 1949, in Clarksville, and she
shared a long and happy marriage with her husband until his passing
in 1984; devoted to her three daughters, she also took great
pleasure in her eight grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, An admired member of her community and the Lamar
Avenue Church of Christ, Mrs. Hobbs excelled in her professional
career, serving as secretary to the Paris chief of police for 41
years before retiring in 2004 at the age of 77; and
WHEREAS, The passing of Betty Hobbs leaves great sadness in
the hearts of those who held her dear, and she will always be
remembered by her loved ones with tenderness and affection; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas,
1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Betty J. Hobbs
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
daughters and sons-in-law, Gay and Jay Spencer, Gwen Ann and Brad
Shelton, and Nancy and Frank Myer; to her grandchildren and their
spouses, Clint and Rachel Spencer, Clay and Maurine Spencer, Jaymie
Gay and Kory Phillips, Scott Shelton, Julie Shelton, Chay Armstrong
Myer, Morgan Myer, and Franklin Myer; to her sisters, Ruby
Whitehouse and Martha Gwen Bonner and her husband, M. H.; to her
brother, James Cagle, and his wife, Dorothy; to her sister-in-law,
Mary Lynn Cagle; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
Betty J. Hobbs.
