CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, After 40 years of exemplary service, Jerry McFadden of Lamar County retired as a member of the United States Navy in July 2005; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Paris High School, this noteworthy Texan served in the Vietnam War and subsequently maintained an active career in the navy as a reservist; during his career, he regularly participated in military readiness exercises overseas and assumed active duty assignments during Operation Desert Storm and the Kosovo-Serbia uprising; he retired as a master chief petty officer, the highest enlisted rank in the navy; and WHEREAS, For 33 years, MCPO McFadden also distinguished himself as an educator for the Paris Independent School District; as a seventh and eighth grade teacher at Travis Junior High School, he brought his dedication and wide range of experience into the classroom and encouraged his students to work hard and pursue civic service; before retiring in 2003, he taught history and vocational courses and inspired his students to raise more than $10,000 for a Korean orphanage in an outreach project; and WHEREAS, Jerry McFadden's years of selfless service and leadership in behalf of his country and the young people of Lamar County are truly outstanding, and he may reflect with pride on a career well spent as he begins the next chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Jerry McFadden for his exceptional service to this nation and the Lone Star State and extend to him sincere best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for MCPO McFadden as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
