H.R. No. 35
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Johnny and Bonnie Cates of Quitman celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary on April 7, 2005, marking a notable
milestone in their long and happy union; and
WHEREAS, To commemorate the special occasion, the pair were
the guests of honor at a reception hosted by their children and
grandchildren at the Quitman First Baptist Church Family Life
Center on April 2, 2005; and
WHEREAS, High school sweethearts, Johnny Cates and the former
Bonnie Jean Williams married while they were students at Texas A&M
University; they have been blessed with a son and daughter-in-law,
Steve and LaNell Cates, two daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda and
Tom Curtis and Laura Lee and Kent Weems, 10 grandchildren, and a
great-grandchild; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Cates have been residents of Quitman
since 1970 and have both retired from successful careers; she
worked for the Quitman Independent School District and he was
employed by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service; Mr. Cates is
also a retired colonel of the Texas National Guard and Reserves; and
WHEREAS, The enduring union of Johnny and Bonnie Cates
remains a genuine source of inspiration to all those with whom they
have shared the richness of their lives, and it is indeed a pleasure
to honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Johnny and
Bonnie Cates on their golden wedding anniversary and extend to them
sincere best wishes for continued happiness together; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Cates as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
