H.R. No. 36 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In times of war, patriotic Americans such as Air Force Major Matthew Glover come to the fore and inspire us with their acts of heroism; and WHEREAS, A helicopter pilot, Major Glover led a dangerous mission as an aircraft commander in Iraq under intense enemy fire that resulted in the capture of three high-value targets and the detention of 10 suspected insurgents; he is also credited with the safe return of 14 crew members and two MH-53M helicopters; and WHEREAS, This outstanding young officer received a Distinguished Flying Cross Award from Vice President Dick Cheney in a Special Operations ceremony on June 10, 2005, at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida; it was his second Flying Cross honor; and WHEREAS, The son of Gary Glover, a former resident of Marshall who now lives in Longview with his wife, Jackie, Matt Glover attended schools in Austin for 10 years and is currently stationed in Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and serving this nation, Major Glover embodies the highest ideals of the armed forces, and his actions indeed merit the lasting respect and gratitude of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate U.S. Air Force Major Matthew Glover on his receipt of a Distinguished Flying Cross Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Major Glover as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
