H.R. No. 97 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Kingwood High School baseball team has made a significant addition to the school's ever-expanding trophy case by winning the 2005 Class 5A state championship crown; and WHEREAS, Compiling a 35-6-1 season record, the Mustangs charged through the playoffs to meet Rockwall High School in the finals, where a convincing 10-5 victory gave Kingwood its first-ever state baseball championship title; and WHEREAS, Contributing to this total team effort were Josh Fountain, Brennan Oliver, Kenneth Negron, Matt McDonough, Blake Steil, Jordan Brewster, Mike Ojala, Kyle Denney, Doug Simmons, Jacob Edwards, Brian Shelton, Johnny Whittleman, Dustin Delay, Chris Churchwell, Brian Smith, Bruce Williams, John Seitz, Mike Cvejanovich, Austin Wood, Kyle Vogl, Clint Stover, Austin Pendleton, Ryan Torres, John Touchton, Thomas McCormick, Blake Hancock, Brad Evans, and Mike Pierce; and WHEREAS, These outstanding student-athletes were schooled in the game's finer points by head coach David Denny, who instilled in his charges the values of hard work, dedication, and good sportsmanship; Coach Denny was ably supported in his efforts by assistant coaches Buddy Thames, Eric Matthews, Tim Garcia, and Kelly Mead; and WHEREAS, Demonstrating the talent and commitment to excellence of true champions, the Mustangs are a source of tremendous pride to their school, family, and friends, and the memory of this achievement will undoubtedly remain with them for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Kingwood High School baseball team on winning the Class 5A state championship title and extend to them best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
