R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Tarleton State University attained a significant
accomplishment in 2005 when it became just the fifth school ever to
win both the men's and women's national collegiate rodeo
championships in the same year; and
WHEREAS, Competing at the 2005 College National Finals Rodeo
in Casper, Wyoming, the two Tarleton teams received numerous
notable individual performances from team members; and
WHEREAS, The men's team dominated its competition, scoring
1,485 points and more than doubling the score of the second-place
finisher; meanwhile, the women's team staged a come-from-behind
victory on the event's final evening, thanks to second-place
finishes in breakaway roping and goat tying; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Watkins and Cody Horwedel picked up national
championships in tie-down roping and saddle bronc riding,
respectively, while former national champions Jackie Hobbs and
Tessie McMullan paced the women's team; other vital contributions
were made by Clayton Jackson, Sara Scott, Neelley Riley, Bray
Armes, York Gill, and Blake Teixeira; and
WHEREAS, These outstanding young rodeo riders are a
tremendous source of pride to their family, friends, and fellow
students, and it is a pleasure to honor them for their hard work,
dedication, and commitment to excellence in the sport of rodeo;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Coach Bob Doty
and the members of the Tarleton State University rodeo teams on
winning the 2005 College National Finals Rodeo and extend best
wishes to these talented individuals for continued success in all
their endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the teams as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
