H.R. No. 203
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
of Hubert Hiawatha Hawkins of San Antonio, who died on June 5, 2005,
at the age of 72; and
WHEREAS, Born in Millican on July 23, 1932, Mr. Hawkins
attended St. Philip's College and Texas State University--San
Marcos, from which he received a bachelor's degree; and
WHEREAS, Hubert Hawkins served in the United States Army and
fought in Korea, where he spent time as a prisoner of war; he was
awarded a Purple Heart and retired from the military as a
noncommissioned officer; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Mr. Hawkins worked
with the Economic Opportunities Development Corporation, Via
Transit Company, San Antonio Housing Authority, and Bexar County
Appraisal District; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, this cherished gentleman
brightened the lives of countless people, and he will be sorely
missed by all who had the great privilege of sharing in the richness
of his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Hubert Hiawatha Hawkins and extend deepest sympathy to the members
of his family: to his beloved wife, Nujean Hawkins; to his children
and grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hubert
Hiawatha Hawkins.
