H.R. No. 204


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life filled with many joyful times and meaningful accomplishments may temper the profound sadness felt by the friends and family of Martin Lipcomb Collins of San Antonio at his passing on June 15, 2005, at the age of 91; and WHEREAS, Born and raised in the Alamo City, Mr. Collins attended St. Peter Claver High School while also working to help support his mother and siblings; he earned a bachelor of science degree from Prairie View A&M and went on to enlist in the Army, serving his country with distinction in World War II; and WHEREAS, After being honorably discharged from the military, he gained employment with the U.S. Post Office and retired after more than three decades of distinguished service; an opportunity arose to join the staff of the San Antonio Independent School District and his compassion, skill, and insight led him to become an outstanding teacher; and WHEREAS, Mr. Collins was known for his ability to inspire his students, and his admirable work and dedication earned him the title of Teacher of the Year; and WHEREAS, In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, particularly on cruises, and participating in the local Ace High and Golden Hearts bridge clubs; and WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. Collins shared more than six decades of marriage with his beloved wife, Celie, and was blessed with a large and loving family whom he treasured; he also held dear his faith and was a valued member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church; and WHEREAS, Martin Collins was a much-loved member of his community, and he benefited countless people with his encouragement and generosity; a friend to many, he is deeply missed by all those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Martin Lipcomb Collins and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Celie Ann Collins; to his daughters, Deborah Collins Crawford and Theda Collins Redwine and her husband, Robert; to his sons, Craig Martin Collins, Keith Nicholas Collins, Ryan Damian Collins and his wife, Phoebe, and Basil Gerard Collins and his wife, Frances; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to his sisters, Eleanor DeLoache Brown and Ethel A. Adams; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Martin Lipcomb Collins.
