H.R. No. 206
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Half a century of marriage is truly cause for
celebration, and Herman and Velera Jones of Midland commemorated
this significant milestone in their lives in June 2005 among family
and friends at a special reception held in their honor; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Jones and the former Velera Ann Williamson were
joined in matrimony on June 11, 1955, at a ceremony held in
St. Louis, Missouri; and
WHEREAS, The couple have since nurtured a happy and rewarding
marriage that has been blessed with two treasured children, DeeAnn
Jones Sandberg and Daniel Jones; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Jones are both retired from fulfilling
careers; Mrs. Jones was employed as a first-grade teacher and is
today a member of the Retired Teachers Association, while Mr. Jones
is a retired petroleum engineer who belongs to the Midland Gem and
Mineral Society; the couple are also active congregants of the
community's First Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Herman and Velera Jones have shared the trials and
triumphs of five decades together, and their marriage remains a
source of inspiration to their close-knit circle of loved ones;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Herman and
Velera Jones on their golden wedding anniversary and extend to them
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Jones as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
