R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The residents of Mineola lost one of their most beloved citizens with the passing of Martha Louise Raynes on June 20, 2005, at the age of 84; and WHEREAS, Born on October 29, 1920, in Fairlie, Miss Raynes earned her bachelor's degree from East Texas State Teachers College and her master's degree from East Texas State University; and WHEREAS, She moved to Mineola in the early 1940s and began a career as an educator in 1944; over the next 42 years, she taught generations of area residents and was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1986; following her retirement that same year, she continued to demonstrate her unending commitment to the youth of her community by serving as a member of the Mineola School Board for nine years; and WHEREAS, Miss Raynes further distinguished herself as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the Retired Teachers Association, and she was a valued congregant of First United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, A caring and inspiring teacher, Louise Raynes will long be remembered for her dedication to her students and her community; although she will be greatly missed, her legacy will live on with the countless Texans who benefited from her wisdom and goodness; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Martha Louise Raynes and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her lifelong friend, B. J. West; to her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Paula Raynes; to her sister and brother-in-law, Nita and Paul Roundtree; and to the other relatives and many friends of this much-loved woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Martha Louise Raynes.
