R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jean Perry Birmingham was named the Top Lady of the Year by the Marshall chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction on June 25, 2005; and WHEREAS, Raised on a farm near Coldspring, Mrs. Birmingham has enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an educator and civic volunteer; she attended Stephen F. Austin State University and East Texas State University, and taught business-related subjects at Pemberton and Marshall high schools for 32 years; she also owned and operated a furniture store with her husband, the late Sam Birmingham, with whom she enjoyed 40 years of marriage; and WHEREAS, Though this noteworthy Texan retired from Marshall High School in the late 1980s, she continues to serve her community as a member of numerous organizations and committees including the League of Women Voters, the Historical Museum Board, the Citizens Advisory Council, the Texas Judicial Council, and the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct; Mrs. Birmingham further distinguished herself as a member of Marshall's city commission for 14 years; and WHEREAS, The strength of our communities depends on the selfless dedication of individuals like Jean Birmingham, who has earned the lasting admiration of her fellow citizens for her many significant contributions to the betterment of the city of Marshall; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Jean Birmingham for being named the 2005 Top Lady of the Year by the Marshall chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and fulfillment; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Birmingham as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
