R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ms. Lynn Barnett has performed exemplary service for 25 years working to advance the arts in various organizations in Abilene and for the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, Ms. Barnett has been cast in the leading role at the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council since 1980; and WHEREAS, Ms. Barnett has sung the praises of the cultural arts in Abilene, including Grace Museum, Young Audiences, the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, the Center for Contemporary Arts, the Paramount Theatre, Ballet Abilene, and the Abilene Writers Guild; and WHEREAS, During that time Ms. Barnett has directed the development of many major arts programs, including the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature, the Artist League of Texas, and the Broadway in Abilene series; and WHEREAS, Ms. Barnett has orchestrated local government support for the arts through the establishment of the Cultural Incentive Grants program; and WHEREAS, Ms. Barnett has painted a bright future for the arts through her work with the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Texas Cultural Trust, and Texans for the Arts; and WHEREAS, Ms. Barnett has exhibited great vision by promoting the arts as a catalyst for downtown revitalization; and WHEREAS, Ms. Barnett has conducted a cultural arts program that has received national recognition, including a feature on ABC News and the Selina Roberts Ottum Award from Americans for the Arts; and WHEREAS, For 25 years Ms. Barnett has danced her way into the hearts of art lovers across the Friendly Frontier with her tireless efforts to make art accessible and available to everyone; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature congratulate Ms. Lynn Barnett for her 25 years of service of work developing the arts in Abilene and throughout Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Barnett as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
