H.R. No. 222


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Executive director A. J. "Pete" Reixach, Jr., will mark his 20th anniversary with Port Freeport in December 2005; and WHEREAS, In his successful career, Mr. Reixach has earned the admiration of his coworkers, his community, and his colleagues in the maritime industry around the nation; and WHEREAS, Over the past two decades, Port Freeport and the surrounding community have benefited tremendously from Mr. Reixach's leadership, as the port has been transformed from a small, sleepy Texas port into a booming enterprise that is on course for a dynamic future; and WHEREAS, Mr. Reixach started his shipping career in New Orleans, advancing through the ranks in this field before coming to Port Freeport in December 1985 as assistant general manager and being promoted to general manager three months later; he was appointed executive port director only two years later; and WHEREAS, Through his leadership, Port Freeport has continued to grow; it ranks 12th among all U.S. ports in international cargo, while continuing to expand public dock activity, and is the second-largest containerport on the Texas Gulf Coast; and WHEREAS, Through Mr. Reixach's vision for the future, Port Freeport will soon have a 60-foot channel just three miles from the Gulf of Mexico and now has more than 7,500 acres for future development, making it a leading economic catalyst for the Texas Gulf Coast today and tomorrow; and WHEREAS, Mr. Reixach has shared his talents in his community as a member of the Brazosport Health Foundation, chairman of the Economic Development Alliance Infrastructure Committee, and past chairman of the board of the Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, He has also shared his talents with his colleagues, serving as a member of the board of directors for the American Association of Port Authorities and past chairman of the board of directors for the Gulf Ports Association of Port Authorities and other groups, and he was recently appointed as a member of the Port Authority Advisory Committee for the Texas Department of Transportation; and WHEREAS, The State of Texas benefits greatly from the development of this world-class navigational capability of Port Freeport; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his illustrious career, Mr. Reixach has distinguished himself as a leader of the highest caliber whose contributions to the shipping industry and great business philosophy have gained him wide recognition and respect in the industry, and the occasion of this anniversary provides a fitting opportunity to honor him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate A. J. "Pete" Reixach, Jr., on his 20th anniversary with Port Freeport and extend to him best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Reixach as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
