H.R. No. 225
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Deralyn Riles Davis has been selected as a recipient
of an Outstanding Texan Award in the area of community service by
the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Huston-Tillotson College, Ms. Davis
also holds a degree in business from The University of Texas at
Arlington and has completed a course of study in mediation at North
Lake College; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Davis brings an impressive range of expertise
and experience to her work as a principal of DRD Bookkeeping and Tax
Service, Davis and Associates Real Estate, and Deralyn Riles Davis
and Associates Consulting and Mediation, and her business acumen is
much admired by her professional peers; and
WHEREAS, She is also an active participant in the important
work of electoral politics, serving as president emeritus and state
chair of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats and as a member of
the Democratic National Committee; and
WHEREAS, The first woman appointed to serve on the Texas
Board of Corrections, Ms. Davis has been accorded a number of
well-deserved honors, including a Profile of Courage Award from the
Texas Coalition of Black Democrats, an Education Award from the
Texas Legislative Black Caucus, and a Human Development Award from
the Texas State NAACP; and
WHEREAS, Those Texans who give of their time and talents to
make a better world indeed merit our heartfelt praise and
gratitude, and through her many outstanding efforts Deralyn Riles
Davis has distinguished herself as one such individual; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Deralyn Riles Davis
on receiving an Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative
Black Caucus and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Davis as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
