H.R. No. 238



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Russell Devorsky of Bellmead has demonstrated his 
commitment to his community in myriad ways, and his efforts in 
behalf of House District 57 have significantly contributed to the 
well-being of area residents; and
	WHEREAS, This third-generation Texan has worked as district 
director in the office of State Representative Jim Dunnam since 
1997; as a local elected official, a committed civic leader, and a 
successful small-business owner, he brings a wealth of experience 
to his work for the Texas House; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. Devorsky served Bellmead as its mayor for four 
terms and continues to take an active role in municipal government 
on the Bellmead City Council, which he has been a member of for more 
than 20 years; he has further distinguished himself as president of 
Texas Municipal League Region Nine, as chair of McLennan County 
Precinct 54, and as a member of the McClennan County Democratic 
Party Executive Committee; and
	WHEREAS, The founding president of the Bellmead Chamber of 
Commerce, Mr. Devorsky is chair of the Bellmead Economic 
Development Corporation and the Metropolitan Planning 
Organization; he is also actively involved with the Enterprise 
Community executive board and the Heart of Texas Council of 
Governments executive committee, to name but a few of the civic 
organizations to which he has contributed his time and considerable 
talent; and
	WHEREAS, Dedicated to the children of Central Texas, Mr. 
Devorsky has been a Little League team sponsor and coach, and he 
initiated both a "Big Brother" program through the Jaycees and an 
innovative "Junior City Council" program with local schools; 
moreover, he has taken charge of the city's annual Christmas 
parade, and under his leadership, this nearly half-century-old 
event has become the largest Christmas parade in Central Texas; and
	WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards, this esteemed 
Texan has been honored by the Texas Municipal League with its 
Excellence Award, the Lions Club with its Community Service Award, 
the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas with its Community Builder Award, 
and the Bellmead Chamber of Commerce with its Service Award and Man 
of the Year Award, and he has been recognized as a "Shining Star of 
Waco" and an admiral of the Texas Navy; and
	WHEREAS, With the support of his wife, Amy, and their 
children, Taylor and Stephen, Russell Devorsky has truly made a 
profound difference in his community and beyond; now, therefore, be 
it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Russell Devorsky 
for his outstanding service to House District 57 and to the citizens 
of Texas and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued 
success; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Devorsky as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
