R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
of Dorothy Mae Jones Day, who died on June 17, 2005, at the age of
65; and
WHEREAS, Born on June 15, 1940, to James Kinchen and Emma Mae
Benton, Mrs. Day was a graduate of I. M. Terrell High School in Fort
Worth; she joined Sunset Baptist Church in Grand Prairie early in
life and later became a faithful congregant of Clark Street Baptist
Church in Greenville; and
WHEREAS, A welder by trade, Mrs. Day positively affected the
lives of many individuals through her generous nature, kindness,
and compassion; she married Walter Day and took great pride in her
roles as a dedicated wife, mother of six children, grandmother of
10, and great-grandmother of 23; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Day gave unstintingly of herself to her wide
circle of loved ones and admirers, and she will long be held in the
hearts of all who were touched by the warmth of her friendship; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the
life of Dorothy Mae Jones Day and extend sincere sympathy to the
members of her family: to her daughters, Sha'Ron Gaut, Phyllis Day,
and Shirley Day; to her sisters, Gracie Lee Richee and Rita
Collier-Johnson; to her special sisters, Peggy Ross and Willie Ruth
Ross Issah; to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to
all who mourn the passing of this cherished woman; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mrs. Day.
