R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The retirement of teacher Roy L. Bernhardt, Jr.,
from Thrall High School in 2005 brought to a close an exemplary
tenure in public education that spanned 38 years; and
WHEREAS, A 1960 graduate of Thrall High, this esteemed Texan
worked his way through college and, after earning his bachelor's
degree from Southwest Texas State University in 1967, accepted a
teaching position with Granger ISD, where he taught English for
five years; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Bernhardt returned to his alma mater,
and for the next 33 years he ably served the student body as an
English teacher, senior class sponsor, and director of the senior
class play; his record of educational excellence has earned him the
lasting respect and admiration of his students and colleagues, as
well as that of the Thrall Ex-Students Association, which
recognized him with the inclusion of his name on a special plaque in
acknowledgment of his "inspiring leadership" and "devoted
service"; and
WHEREAS, Roy Bernhardt has indeed had a positive impact on
the countless students who have passed through the doors of his
classroom through the years, and although he will be greatly missed
at Thrall High School, his legacy as an outstanding educator lives
on in the lives of the students he helped to guide during the course
of his career; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Roy Bernhardt for
his outstanding tenure in the field of education and congratulate
him on his well-deserved retirement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Bernhardt as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
