R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Congregants of the Cathedral of Hope in Dallas are joining together on July 30, 2005, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the church's founding; and WHEREAS, Organized in 1970, this important place of worship was established by members of the Circle of Friends, the only gay and lesbian organization in Dallas at that time; through the years, the church has undergone a host of significant changes, including the addition of new facilities and a vote to become an independent congregation, and it now has a membership of more than 2,000; and WHEREAS, Today, church members are working towards creating a "Cathedral for the 21st Century," which features the John Thomas Bell Wall, a national AIDS memorial; the new Congregational Life Center, which will provide a permanent home for the Hope Counseling Center, the Family and Children's Ministry, and the TV/Audiovisual Studio; and a new interfaith peace chapel and sanctuary; and WHEREAS, The Cathedral of Hope stands as a tribute to the dedication and hard work of its members, who have tirelessly devoted their time, energy, and resources to ensure its continued existence; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the members of the Cathedral of Hope on the joyous occasion of the church's 35th anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable observance.
