H.R. No. 283
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jan Woody was elected to the board of trustees for
Dallas County Schools on May 7, 2005, providing a fitting
opportunity to commend her for her dedication to the education of
young Texans; and
WHEREAS, A former teacher, librarian, and business manager,
Ms. Woody earned her bachelor's degree from Northwestern University
before attending the University of North Texas, where she received
a master's degree in library and information science; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Woody has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to
education through her work as chairman of the development council
of Texans Can! Academy at Carrollton-Farmers Branch; she played a
vital role in establishing this school, which provides enhanced
educational options for academically at-risk youth; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Ms. Woody has devoted her time and
energy to serving the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of
Commerce, the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Dallas
Fort Worth International, and the Asian American Garland Festival;
moreover, she has undertaken committee work for the chambers of
commerce of Richardson, Metrocrest, and Farmers Branch and has
helped to raise funds for the Civic League; she also has worked as a
member of the Farmers Branch Woman's Club, which named her
Volunteer of the Year three times; and
WHEREAS, This prominent citizen has distinguished herself as
a devoted educator, businesswoman, community volunteer, and friend
to those who are less fortunate, and as a member of the board of
trustees for Dallas County Schools, Ms. Woody will undoubtedly
continue to build upon her impressive record of achievements; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Jan Woody on
her election to the board of trustees for Dallas County Schools and
extend to her best wishes for success in all her future endeavors;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Woody as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
