R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Steven Kelly Schulz of
Karnes County has returned home from Iraq after risking his life in
service to his country and sustaining serious injuries in combat;
and
WHEREAS, While working as a gun turret operator, Lance
Corporal Schulz was hit by a roadside bomb on April 19, 2005, and
narrowly escaped with his life, and his heroism on that day earned
him a Purple Heart; and
WHEREAS, This courageous young Texan is the son of Steve and
Debbie Schulz, who currently reside in Friendswood; his decision to
join the Marines in 2001 was largely influenced by his desire to
make a positive difference in the world following the attacks of
September 11; and
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to Lance Corporal
Schulz and to all of the country's military personnel, for they are
called on to bear great, often unimaginable, burdens, and they
render service and sacrifice that is truly beyond measure; and
WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and
this country, Steven Schulz has embodied the highest ideals of the
armed forces and earned the lasting respect and gratitude of all
Americans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor U.S. Marine Lance
Corporal Steven Kelly Schulz for his brave and steadfast service in
this nation's behalf and extend to him sincere best wishes for a
swift and full recovery; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Lance Corporal Schulz as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
