R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Craig Martin, mayor of the City of Converse, is
celebrating his 50th birthday on July 18, 2005, confirming what his
fellow citizens have long known, that this esteemed public servant
wasn't born yesterday; and
WHEREAS, Born in Marion, Ohio, on July 18, 1955, Mayor Martin
has a bachelor's degree in public relations and spent many years in
the field of journalism, writing for Stars & Stripes and teaching
his trade at the Defense Information School; after traveling and
living in many different locales during his career as an Air Force
officer, this astute gentleman and his wife, Lisa, demonstrated
their keen intelligence and discriminating taste when they chose to
make her native Texas their permanent home; and
WHEREAS, Settling in Converse in 1996, he soon became active
in local politics; a habitual overachiever, he was appointed to the
planning and zoning commission in the spring of 1997 and was elected
to the city council the following year; in 1999, he was voted mayor,
and he has since become one of only two Converse mayors to be
re-elected three times; and
WHEREAS, In addition to performing the duties of his office,
Mayor Martin has served as chair of the Northeast Partnership of
Cities and as the parliamentarian for the Texas Municipal League
Region 7; now in the process of starting his own business as well,
Mayor Martin shows no signs of slowing down, and he will no doubt
sprint right past the half-century mark filled with the same sense
of enthusiasm and drive that have characterized his career; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Honorable
Craig Martin on the occasion of his 50th birthday and commend him
for the many significant contributions he has made to the
betterment of the City of Converse; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mayor Martin as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
